Julian didn’t wake. Not really. But the sound of her voice—that low, gravelly purr that had replaced her sharp, professional clip—seemed to reach into the depths of his unconsciousness and pull a physical response from him.

He let out a long, heavy exhale that fanned hot across the skin of her throat. Instead of opening his eyes, he reacted with the pure, territorial instinct of a man who wasn't done with the dream he was having. His grip on her waist didn't just hold; it flexed, his large hand splaying flat against the small of her back to haul her even more flush against the heat of his torso.

He was a furnace, radiating a bone-deep warmth that seemed to seep into Isla’s very marrow.

"Mmm... no," he managed, the word less of a spoken thought and more of a dark, sleep-thickened vibration against her collarbone.

He nudged his face deeper into the crook of her neck, his stubble grazing her skin with a delicious, abrasive friction. He wasn't ready for the "marauder" to return to the world of schedules and hunt-or-be-hunted. In this bruised indigo light, he was just a man anchored to the only thing that felt solid in a lifetime of shifting shadows.

When her thumb traced his lower lip, his breath hitched. His eyelashes fluttered—dark, thick fans against his cheekbones—but they didn't lift. Instead, he blindly captured her hand with his free one, his fingers interlocking with hers and pinning her palm flat against his chest, right over the steady, heavy thud of his heart. It was a silent command: Feel this. Stay here.

"Five minutes," he rasped, the syllables dragging through his throat like gravel over velvet. He still hadn't opened his eyes, but a ghost of a smirk—lazy, arrogant, and entirely smitten—tugged at the corner of his mouth. "The kitchen isn't going anywhere, Isla. And neither are you."

He shifted his head just enough to press a messy, lingering kiss to the underside of her jaw, his lips moving against her skin as he spoke.

"The cat... he'll survive another hour," Julian murmured, his voice dropping to a barely audible rumble. "But I'm not sure I will if you move."

He let out another deep sigh, his body going heavy and lax again, though his hold on her remained an unbreakable circuit. He was hovering in that exquisite liminal space between sleep and reality, where the only thing that mattered was the scent of her hair and the fact that she was still there, threading her life into his.

The heavy, steady thud of his heart beneath her trapped palm was a rhythm Isla could have happily memorized for the rest of her life. When his fingers laced intimately through hers, pinning her hand to the scorching heat of his bare chest, a soft, involuntary sigh slipped past her swollen lips. She didn't try to pull away. She let her muscles completely slacken against his side, absorbing the bone-deep warmth he was radiating into the cool, bruised twilight of the bedroom.

"Five minutes," she echoed silently in her head, the concept feeling entirely alien and impossibly decadent.

Isla did not live a life that afforded her five extra minutes. Her normal reality back in Los Angeles was a relentless, highly calibrated machine of early alarms, chaotic school runs with Wren, coordinating hand-offs with Kai, and navigating the perpetual, high-stakes motion of her career. Even now, temporarily relocated to London, her mornings were dictated by brutal film schedules, sterile makeup trailers before dawn, and the exhausting demands of being on set for fourteen hours a day. Her body was conditioned to snap awake with a jolt of cortisol, always bracing for the next demand, the next crisis, the next line of dialogue.

But here, tangled in the heavy, possessive limbs of the man she was falling in love with, time had simply ceased to exist. There were no alarms. No ringing phones. No call sheets. Just the sheer, unadulterated luxury of a body waking precisely when it was ready, surrounded by the scent of sleep, crisp winter air, and the lingering, musky aftermath of what they had done to each other hours before.

She let her eyes wander, taking in the quiet sanctuary of his room as the Swedish afternoon surrendered completely to the evening. The indigo light softened the minimalist, masculine lines of his mid-century furniture, casting long, velvety shadows across the floorboards. At the foot of the bed, the silver-grey cat remained curled into a perfect, indifferent circle of fur, deeply asleep and entirely unbothered by the tangled limbs of the humans nearby. It was a picture of absolute, undisturbed domesticity, and it made Isla’s chest ache with a sudden, fierce tenderness that bordered on physical pain.

Her gaze drifted back up to Julian’s face. The lazy, arrogant smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth was devastatingly charming, a stark contrast to the intense, fiercely focused man who had commanded her absolute surrender earlier. In the dim light, with his dark eyelashes fanning against his cheekbones and the hard lines of his jaw relaxed in sleep, he looked beautifully unguarded. He looked like hers.

Since her right hand was securely held hostage against his chest, Isla shifted her left arm. She reached up, her cool fingertips finding the nape of his neck. She slid her hand into the thick, dark strands of his hair, her nails lightly scratching his scalp in a slow, rhythmic massage. It was a deeply soothing, intimate gesture, and she felt the immediate, physical reward of it as Julian let out another low, vibrating hum of approval, his heavy frame melting even further into her and the mattress.

She smiled, her expression soft, unguarded, and hopelessly fond as she pressed her lips to the exact spot on his jaw he had just kissed.

"Five minutes, then," she murmured, her voice a husky, quiet rustle in the dark room. She continued the slow, hypnotic drag of her fingers through his hair, her thumb brushing the sensitive skin behind his ear. "Though I should warn you, if you keep holding me like this, I might demand ten. And if we starve to death in this bed because you absolutely refused to release your hostage... I am making it very clear that I will be blaming you in the afterlife."

Julian’s eyes didn’t just open; they cleared, the hazy fog of sleep burning off instantly to reveal a gaze that was predatory, soft, and utterly fixated on her all at once. He didn't move his head from her neck, but the hand that had been pinning hers to his chest finally relented—only so it could begin a slow, possessive voyage of its own.

His palm slid down the curve of her ribs, the heat of his skin searing against hers, before settling on the flare of her hip. His touch wasn't the frantic, demanding grasp of the afternoon; it was a slow, reverent mapping, his thumb tracing the dip of her waist with a deliberate pressure that seemed to say I know this part of you now.

"I accept the blame," he rasped, his voice finally finding its edge, though it was still roughened by the lingering weight of sleep. "And I accept the terms. If we're to be ghosts, Isla, at least we'll be well-rested ones."

He finally shifted, lifting his head from her shoulder just enough to look at her. The bruised indigo light caught the sharp angles of his face, making him look like something carved from obsidian and silver. His other hand, the one draped over her waist, began to roam upward, his fingertips grazing the sensitive skin of her inner arm until he reached the hand buried in his hair. He didn't pull it away; he leaned into the sensation, his eyes fluttering shut for a brief, vulnerable second as she scratched his scalp.

"You're a dangerous woman," he murmured, a low, dangerous chuckle vibrating in his chest. "You talk about schedules and 'sensible' things, and then you touch me like that and expect me to remember how a door handle works."

He rolled slightly more onto her, his heavy thigh sliding between hers to maintain that agonizingly perfect contact. His hand on her hip moved lower, his fingers tangling briefly in the sheets before pulling her even tighter against the hard, warm line of his body. He was awake now, fully and completely, but he showed no sign of actually getting up.

"The marauder is considering a career change," he whispered, his lips hovering a breath away from hers, teasing the corner of her mouth. "Occupation: Professional Hostage Taker. The pay is terrible, but the fringe benefits..."

He trailed off, his gaze dropping to her swollen lips, the arrogance in his expression softening into something much more terrifying—absolute devotion. He nipped at her bottom lip, a sharp, playful punctuation to his words, before his tongue swiped the seam of her mouth in a slow, coaxing invitation.

"Five more minutes," he promised, his hand sliding back up to cup her face, his thumb stroking her cheekbone with a tenderness that felt like a quiet confession. "And then I will find you the finest sustenance Sweden has to offer. Or I’ll just call for a pizza and tell the driver to leave it at the gate so I don't have to put on trousers. Which do you prefer, my queen?"

A soft, huffed breath of a laugh escaped Isla, vibrating against the heat of his chest. She couldn't help the way her toes curled under the duvet as his palm began that slow, cartographic voyage down her ribs. It was a devastatingly effective distraction from her own hunger, the kind of touch that made her internal monologue stutter and reset.

"How incredibly practical of you, Julian," she murmured, her voice sounding like smoke and velvet in the indigo shadows. "I can see the headline now: British Actress Found Perished in Nordic Flat; Sources Say She Was Happy, if Exceptionally Hungry. It’s very tragic, very Scandi-noir. My agent will have a field day with the posthumous publicity."

She felt the shift in him—the transition from the heavy, blunt weight of sleep to that sharp, singular focus that always made her feel like the only person in the world. When his other hand began its slow, torturous climb up the sensitive skin of her inner arm, her breath hitched, her fingers tightening reflexively in the thick, dark silk of his hair.

She tilted her head back against the pillow, watching him through heavy lids as he called her a dangerous woman. A slow, purely provocative smirk pulled at the corner of her mouth, her dry humor surfacing even through the haze of affection.

"Oh, I'm a menace, darling. Truly. One minute I'm discussing the merits of a well-organized Google Calendar, and the next, I'm single-handedly dismantling the professional resolve of Sweden’s most stoic export," she drawled, her accent sliding into that effortless, posh lilt that usually signaled she was about to say something wicked. "It’s a gift, really. You should be honored to be the victim of such a sophisticated heist."

She had a joke about Stockholm Syndrome teetering on the tip of her tongue—something about how she was clearly the one being held captive in a very aesthetic, very comfortable prison—but the words died in her throat. Julian leaned in, and the look in his eyes wasn't just desire; it was a terrifying, beautiful devotion that made her pulse skip a beat.

The sharp, playful nip at her bottom lip drew a low, involuntary hum from her, and when his tongue swiped the seam of her mouth, she felt her entire body go soft and pliable beneath him. The "sensible" version of her didn't just leave the room; she fled the country.

She let the silence stretch for a heartbeat, her thumb tracing the elegant, sharp line of his cheekbone as she considered his offer. The idea of him actually having to interact with a pizza delivery driver in his current state of disheveled, post-coital glory was tempting, but the reality of the moment was far more precious.

"Pizza is a bold choice for a man who currently looks like he’s been dragged through a very expensive hedge," she whispered, her fingers trailing down to the nape of his neck, pulling him just a fraction closer so their lips remained brushed together. "But honestly? I prefer whatever keeps us in this exact wreckage for as long as possible. If that means we're still here when the sun comes up again, I think I can live with the hunger. The 'queen' is officially granting you an extension on the hostage situation."

She shifted her hips just enough to settle more firmly against the hard, warm line of his thigh, a sultry, half-lidded challenge in her eyes.

"Besides," she added, her voice dropping to a teasing, private murmur. "I haven't quite finished exploring the fringe benefits of your new career path."

Julian’s laugh was a low, dark vibration that Isla felt in her own bones before she heard it. It was the sound of a man who knew he’d been thoroughly bested and found he didn't mind the defeat at all.

"Scandi-noir," he repeated, the words rolling off his tongue with a dry, appreciative rasp. "A tragic end, indeed. I can see the police report now: Subject was found smiling; cause of death was sheer, stubborn bliss."

As she shifted against him, that small, provocative movement of her hips, Julian’s breath hitched. The "stoic export" she’d teased him about was currently melting under the heat of her gaze, his resolve evaporating like mist. He didn't just accept the extension on the hostage situation; he leaned into it with a predatory, renewed hunger that had nothing to do with food.

"An extension?" he murmured, his lips grazing hers as he spoke, catching the scent of her skin and the lingering sweetness of her breath. "You're a generous monarch, Isla. Dangerous, as we’ve established, but generous."

His hand, which had been resting on her hip, suddenly slid upward, his fingers splaying wide across her ribs before his palm cupped her breast with a reverent, heavy heat. He watched her face, his pale eyes darkening until the iris was nearly swallowed by the pupil, tracking the way her expression softened and her pupils blown wide in the dim light.

"If you want to explore the fringe benefits," he rasped, his voice dropping to a jagged, carnal whisper that sent a fresh jolt of electricity straight to her core, "I’d be a very poor host to deny you. The kitchen can wait. The world can wait. I think I have just enough strength left to show you exactly why my career change was a stroke of genius."

He didn't wait for a verbal answer. He claimed her mouth again, but this wasn't the gentle sealing of a vow from minutes ago. This was the marauder returning to the field, his tongue tangling with hers in a slow, deep, and thoroughly devastating re-entry. He rolled further over her, his heavy chest pressing her down into the softness of the mattress, pinning her with a delicious, inescapable weight.

His free hand found the nape of her neck, his fingers threading through her hair to tilt her head back, exposing the long, elegant line of her throat to the cool indigo air—and his waiting mouth.

"I hope you're prepared, darling," he murmured against the sensitive skin just below her ear, his teeth grazing her pulse point. "Because I intend to make sure that by the time we actually make it to that pizza, you won't even remember your own name, let alone your Google Calendar."

He shifted his weight, his thigh pressing firmly between hers, a silent promise of the wreckage to come.

"Welcome back to the ruins," he breathed, his hand sliding down to the small of her back to pull her impossibly close. "I think you'll find the renovations are... extensive."

He didn't move to get up. Instead, he reached out blindly with his free hand, fumbling toward the mid-century nightstand until his fingers brushed the cold glass of his phone. He didn't even look at the screen, his gaze remaining locked on her dark, heavy-lidded eyes, memorizing the way the indigo light made her look like a painting he wasn't worthy of owning.

"If I move more than six inches from this bed, I’m fairly certain my legs will give out," he confessed, his voice a low, gravelly vibration. "And I refuse to let the last thing you see of the 'magnificent marauder' be him collapsing face-first onto the rug."

With a practiced, muscle-memory swipe, he unlocked the phone, the artificial glow of the screen illuminating the sharp, satisfied lines of his face. He began to scroll with one hand, while the other remained firmly anchored to the small of her back, his fingers dancing along the base of her spine in a way that was anything but "sensible."

"Right. Sustenance," he muttered, though his eyes flickered back to her mouth every few seconds. "There’s a place three blocks away that makes a truffle and prosciutto pie that might—might—be a worthy offering for a queen who’s currently ruining my life."

He tapped the screen a few times, his movements efficient even in his state of total physical decimation.

"It’s ordered," he rasped, tossing the phone back onto the nightstand with a dull thud. He immediately returned both arms to her, hauling her back into the heat of his chest as if the three seconds of diverted attention had been three seconds too many. "Thirty minutes. That’s how long we have before I have to consider the logistics of trousers and front doors."

He shifted, his heavy thigh sliding back between hers, reclaiming the territory with a possessive, slow-burning intent. He nuzzled his face into the hollow of her throat, his stubble a delicious, rough contrast to the silk of her skin.

"Twenty-nine minutes now," he breathed, his lips brushing the pulse point that was already beginning to trip under his touch. "How would you like to spend them, darling? Because I can think of several 'fringe benefits' that don't require me to stand up."

He nipped at the curve of her shoulder, a playful, predatory promise.

"And just so we're clear," he added, his voice dropping to a dark, velvet-lined whisper. "The cat is getting none of the prosciutto. He saw too much."

Isla watched him, her eyes heavy and dark, a small, knowing smile playing at the corners of her mouth as she absorbed the low, gravelly symphony of his voice. She didn't offer a single protest as he dictated the terms of their dinner—truffle and prosciutto sounded like exactly the kind of decadent, salt-heavy reward her body was currently screaming for. She loved the way he just did it, stepping back into that effortless, commanding rhythm that left her with nothing to do but exist and be adored.

Her body was a map of beautiful, simmering aches; her muscles felt heavy and slightly over-taxed, and a small, rational part of her brain suggested that a hot shower and a robe might make her feel like a civilized human being again. But as Julian’s hand moved from her waist to cup her breast with that heavy, possessive heat, and his mouth returned to the sensitive cord of her neck with a hunger that felt entirely un-civilized, that rational voice was promptly suffocated.

She let her head fall back into the pillows, a soft, broken hum of approval vibrating in her throat as his teeth grazed her skin. The sting was grounding, a sharp contrast to the liquid warmth spreading through her limbs. To convince him to relinquish his hold, she began to move her hands with a slow, agonizing deliberation. She slid her palms up the corded muscles of his arms, her touch feather-light and teasing, before bringing his hands up to frame her own face.

She leaned into him, her lips seeking his in a kiss that was a masterclass in seduction—slow, wet, and deep, her tongue tangling with his in a rhythmic invitation that made his breathing stutter. She broke the seal of their mouths just enough to drag her lips along the sharp line of his jaw, her breath hot against his ear.

"You know, for a man whose legs are supposedly made of jelly, you’re still being remarkably bossy," she murmured, her nails lightly scratching the sensitive skin at the nape of his neck.

She shifted her weight, a subtle, sultry roll of her hips that ground her center against his thigh, making his jaw tighten in a silent battle with his own restraint. She shifted her gaze toward the foot of the bed. The silver-grey croissant was gone. The dresser was empty. The "winter king" had clearly sensed the shift in the atmospheric pressure—the way the air was thickening and heating up all over again—and had decided to vacate the premises before the sequel began.

"He's gone," she whispered, her voice a smoky, amused rasp against his ear. "I think your critic decided the performance was a bit too immersive for his taste. He’s likely off somewhere drafting a very stern review of your lack of boundaries."

She turned her gaze back to Julian, her fingers tracing the sharp, beautiful line of his jaw before sliding down to his chest, her fingertips tracing the hard-packed ridges of his abdomen with a slow, possessive intent.

"If you truly want to save your strength for the 'logistics of trousers,' perhaps you should allow me to take the lead for a moment," she suggested, her voice dropping to a low, velvet-lined purr. She pressed a series of lingering, open-mouthed kisses to his throat, her hands sliding down to his hips to exert a gentle, persuasive pressure. "Unpin me, darling. If you stay right where you are, you can keep your legs perfectly rested while I do all the heavy lifting. I think I’ve recovered just enough to manage a hostile takeover of my own."

She arched an eyebrow, her gaze dropping to his mouth as she waited for the man beneath her to surrender his position.

Julian’s response was a sound that sat somewhere between a surrender and a jagged, low-pitched growl. The "bossy" comment earned her a flicker of that old, razor-sharp smirk, but as her nails grazed the nape of his neck and her hips executed that slow, devastating roll, the smirk vanished, replaced by a look of raw, unadulterated hunger.

He felt the heavy, rhythmic thrum of his own pulse everywhere she touched—in his jaw, his chest, and lower, where the "hostile takeover" she was proposing was already met with a very literal, soaring reinforcement.

"Remarkably bossy, am I?" he rasped, his voice sounding like it had been dragged through gravel and smoke. He let his head fall back into the pillows for a fraction of a second, his eyes sliding shut as he absorbed the sheer, electric sensation of her palms mapping his skin. "You’re lucky I’m too decimated to argue the point, Isla."

When she mentioned the cat's departure, Julian didn't even look. He didn't care if the animal had gone to write a manifesto or a stern review; his entire universe had shrunk to the heat of the woman currently dismantling his restraint with surgical precision.

As she suggested taking the lead, Julian’s hands, which had been anchoring her to the mattress, slowly slid outward. He didn't just "unpin" her; he opened himself up, his arms falling wide against the rumpled sheets in a gesture of absolute, provocative vulnerability. It was the marauder laying down his sword at the feet of the queen, though the look in his pale eyes suggested he was going to enjoy every second of his captivity.

"A hostile takeover," he echoed, the words a dark, velvet-lined vibration in the quiet room. He watched her through heavy, dark lashes, his breathing already starting to turn shallow and ragged again. "Go on then, darling. Seize the assets. I’m officially declaring myself a neutral party."

He let out a sharp, hissed breath as her fingertips traced the ridges of his abdomen, his muscles jumping under her touch in a reflexive, starving response. He remained perfectly still—save for the frantic thudding of his heart against his ribs—as he allowed her to shift, to climb, to claim the space above him.

He reached up, not to pull her down, but simply to cup the back of her head, his fingers tangling in her dark, messy hair to guide her mouth back to his.

"You have exactly twenty-four minutes before a very confused Swede rings that doorbell," he whispered against her lips, his voice dropping to a carnal, challenging purr. "I suggest you start the 'heavy lifting' immediately, Isla. Because if you think I’m going to make this easy for you just because I’m lying down, you’ve vastly underestimated your opponent."

He arched his back slightly, a silent, searching pressure against her as he surrendered the floor to her.

"The ruins are yours," he breathed, his eyes locking onto hers with a terrifying, beautiful intensity. "Do your worst."

A slow, triumphant shiver raced through Isla as she felt the shift in the atmosphere—the moment the marauder finally laid down his arms and invited the invasion. Watching Julian’s massive, powerful frame go lax against the sheets, his arms falling wide in that beautiful, provocative surrender, was the most intoxicating thing she had ever seen. He looked like a fallen god, magnificent and ruined, and she was more than ready to claim the wreckage.

She didn't waste a second.

Moving with a newfound, feline grace, Isla slid her body up the length of his, her skin scorching wherever it met his. She felt the heavy, rigid length of him pressing against her thigh, a silent testament to the lie he’d told about being decimated. She hooked a leg over his hips and pivoted, her knees bracketing his waist as she settled herself firmly into his lap.

The reconnection was electric. Being naked and flush against him, feeling the hard-packed ridges of his stomach beneath her palms and the frantic, heavy drumbeat of his heart against her chest, made her vision swim. She sat up straight, her hair a wild, dark curtain around her shoulders, and let out a soft, jagged breath as she took in the view of him pinned beneath her.

"Twenty-four minutes," she murmured, her voice a smoky, velvet challenge. "I've filmed entire sequences in less time than that, Julian. I think I can manage a thorough occupation."

She leaned forward, her breasts grazing the solid expanse of his chest as she reached up to capture his hands. Instead of letting them roam, she guided his arms back up, pinning his wrists into the pillows on either side of his head—a mirror of what he had done to her earlier. She didn't use strength; she used the absolute, crushing weight of her intent.

"You said you were a neutral party," she whispered, leaning down until her lips were a fraction of an inch from his. "Neutral parties don't get to move. They just get to watch."

She began to move her hips, a slow, agonizingly deliberate grind of her center against the heavy, pulsing heat of him. She watched his jaw lock, his eyes darkening into twin storms of grey as he fought the instinct to reclaim control. She wasn't just taking the lead; she was conducting a symphony of his rawest nerves.

She trailed her mouth down to his throat, her tongue tracing the frantic rhythm of his pulse before her teeth nipped, sharp and possessive, at the cord of his neck.

"I told you I had a penchant for ruins," she purred against his skin, her hands sliding down from his wrists to the broad, tense slopes of his shoulders. She dug her nails in, just a fraction, as she shifted her angle, her wet, weeping heat sliding perfectly against him. "And I think I’m going to enjoy rebuilding you in my own image."

She sat back again, her spine arching as she looked down at him, her dark eyes dilated with a predatory, loving intensity. She reached down, her cool fingers guiding him toward the gate he’d so willingly left unguarded.

"Don't worry about the delivery driver, darling," she breathed, her voice dropping into a sultry, low rasp as she began the slow, exquisite process of taking him back inside her. "By the time he rings that bell, I intend to have you so thoroughly unraveled that you won't even remember how to speak Swedish, let alone answer a door."

Julian’s head thrashed back into the pillows, a jagged, strangled sound tearing from his throat as he felt the first, soul-shattering slide of her taking him back in. If he had been a marauder before, he was a heretic now, worshiping at the altar she had built out of his own bedsheets.

He didn't move his hands from where she’d placed them. He let his fingers curl into the fabric of the pillows, his knuckles white and trembling, forcing himself to endure the exquisite agony of being a "neutral party." His chest heaved, his ribs expanding against her palms like a bellows, and his pale eyes were wide, fixed on her with a look of such raw, shimmering adoration that it was almost painful to behold.

"Isla," he rasped, her name sounding like a prayer and a casualty all at once.
Watching her sit up over him, seeing the wild, dark silk of her hair against the indigo shadows and the regal, predatory curve of her spine, Julian felt the last of his carefully maintained identity simply dissolve. He wasn't the strategist. He wasn't the man with the plan. He was just a man, utterly beholden to the woman who was currently rewriting his nervous system.

When she ground her hips against him with that agonizing, deliberate intent, Julian’s hips bucked instinctively, a sharp, hissed breath escaping through his teeth.

"God... you are... magnificent," he choked out, his voice a broken thread of velvet.

He watched her eyes, those dark, dilated pools that held his entire world, and he saw the queen she was. He loved the way she claimed him; he loved the sharp, possessive sting of her nails in his shoulders and the way she looked down at him as if he were the only thing in the world worth conquering.

"You want to... rebuild me?" he whispered, the words trembling with the heat of his surrender. He let his eyes flutter shut for a second as the friction of her movement sent a blinding white light through his skull. "Then do it. Tear it all down. Leave nothing but... but this."

He forced his eyes back open, wanting to see every flicker of pleasure on her face, every arrogant, beautiful smirk. As she sank lower, taking all of him, Julian’s jaw locked so hard the bone ached. The "ruins" weren't just a metaphor anymore; he felt himself crumbling under the weight of his love for her, a seismic collapse that left him raw and terrifyingly open.

"The hell with... Swedish," he managed, his voice dropping to a carnal, desperate growl as he finally broke his neutrality, his hands flying up from the pillows to catch her waist, his thumbs digging into the soft skin of her hips to help guide her rhythm.

He didn't care about the twenty-four minutes. He didn't care about the world outside the door. He pulled her down, his lips seeking the hollow of her throat so he could taste the salt and the heat of her.

"You've won, Isla," he breathed against her skin, a confession and a vow. "The gates are wide open. I’m yours. Every inch of the wreckage... is yours."

When his large, warm hands finally clamped onto her hips, shattering the last illusion of his neutrality, a spectacular jolt of liquid heat shot straight up Isla’s spine. The desperate, bruising pressure of his thumbs sinking into her soft flesh wasn't a usurpation of her power; it was his absolute physical submission to it. He had handed her the keys to the city, and she was more than ready to burn it to the ground.

She abandoned the teasing. The air in the bruised indigo bedroom had become entirely too thick for clever retorts or whispered threats.

Isla let her eyes drift shut, her head falling back as she gave herself entirely over to the heavy, sliding friction of their joined bodies. With his hands anchoring her, she established a rhythm that was designed to completely obliterate them both. It wasn't the frantic, pounding siege from the mattress earlier; it was a deep, churning, agonizingly thorough plunge.

She rose up slowly, drawing the friction out until they were barely connected, holding that torturous suspension for a heartbeat while his breath rattled in his chest. Then, she sank back down with a heavy, deliberate force, taking every rigid, pulsing inch of him until she bottomed out against his pelvis.

A ragged, fractured noise tore from Julian's throat, his hips bucking upward instinctively to meet her descent.

Isla didn't let him retreat. She leaned her weight forward, her hair creating a dark, secluded tent around their faces as she pressed her chest flush against the hard, sweat-slicked expanse of his. She caught his mouth in a starving, bruising kiss, swallowing his groans and breathing her own desperate sighs directly into his lungs. Her tongue tangled with his, a wet, slick echo of the devastating rhythm her hips were currently executing.

The slow, torturous grind inevitably gave way to a harder, sharper ride as her own hunger entirely eclipsed her desire to punish him.

She rode him with a fluid, desperate intensity, her manicured nails biting crescent moons into the thick, tense muscles of his shoulders. Every time she slammed down onto him, the heavy, rigid thickness of his length stretched her walls, hitting that deep, exquisite bundle of nerves that made her vision white out at the edges. The wet, rhythmic percussion of their collision filled the quiet twilight, a carnal soundtrack to the absolute ruin they were making of each other.

Beneath her, Julian was completely unspooled. He met every one of her downward thrusts with a violent, upward snap of his hips, chasing the friction, demanding more of the very thing that was destroying him. His hands slid from her hips to grip the soft curve of her backside, kneading and lifting her to maximize the depth of the invasion.

The tension coiled tight in Isla’s belly, a localized inferno radiating outward through her trembling thighs. She felt the familiar, terrifying pull of the abyss approaching much faster than it had any right to. She was supposed to be the one in control, the queen orchestrating the takeover, but the sheer, overwhelming sensation of him completely filling her—of him yielding everything he had to her pleasure—was snapping her own restraint in two.

She broke the kiss, her chest heaving as she dragged her open mouth down the strong column of his throat, her teeth scraping over his collarbone.

She increased her pace, her hips moving in a frantic, blurring blur of heat and wet friction. She didn't need to speak; the raw, uninhibited sounds spilling from her lips told him exactly what he was doing to her. She was chasing the lightning, her body bearing down on him as the white-hot pressure between her legs expanded into a blinding, consuming fire, ready to shatter them both long before the doorbell ever had a chance to ring.
