Of course he found her.

She hadn’t heard the door. Hadn’t felt the air shift.

But she knew.

Knew in the way her pulse flickered just before she turned her head. Knew in the warm thrum under her skin, the kind that only started when he was near.

There he was.

Bathed in shadow and moonlight, looking at her like she was something holy. Something rare. Like maybe he still couldn’t believe she was real.

Lilith didn’t say a word.

Didn’t move.

She just watched.

Let him drink her in from the edge of the night, let the silence stretch like silk between them—charged, intimate, inevitable.

She loved him like this.

Barefoot and beautiful. Hair a mess from sleep, jaw shadowed with stubble, chest still marked faintly from where she’d touched him earlier. Nico in the hush. Nico in the stillness. Nico with his heart on display and his hands not knowing what to do without her in them.

She didn’t beckon.

Didn’t need to.

He was already hers.

And when he dropped his shirt and stepped into the water without breaking eye contact—God, it wrecked her. The heat curled low and slow beneath her ribs, a quiet, aching bloom.

But she kept still.

Let him come to her.

Let him reach for her like he always did—like she was a compass and he was forever finding north.

When his hands found her waist, when his forehead rested against hers, she breathed him in like a secret.

The kiss made her toes curl.

Not from hunger—though there was always that too—but from the way it held her. From the way it told her everything without needing words. From the way it said you are safe here, and I am not leaving.

Lilith let her fingers trail along his collarbone, slow and deliberate. Then lower, over the rise of his chest, the dip of his sternum, down to where the water clung to his skin like dew.

“I wasn’t trying to disappear,” she whispered. “Just wanted to feel quiet in my own skin again.”

She looked up at him, her voice turning silkier, a little darker. A little more her.

“But then you showed up. Ruined that calm. Turned it into something else.”

Her smile was lazy and wicked and home.

“This was supposed to be a midnight swim,” she teased, lips brushing his jaw. “Now I’m thinking it might become a baptism.”

She shifted in the water, wrapping one leg around his waist, body pressing closer, arms sliding around his shoulders like a slow surrender.

“You always do this,” she murmured, nose skimming the edge of his cheek. “Find me. Undo me. Make the dark feel like silk and fire all at once.”

She kissed him again.

Longer this time.

Deeper.

Wetter.

Then pulled back just enough to whisper against his lips:

“So what now, Italian god? You gonna make me fall in love with you again under moonlight?”

Her eyes sparkled, dangerous and soft.

“Or are you just planning to worship me until the sun comes up?”

And with that, she tangled her fingers in his hair and pulled him under the stars.

Because she already knew the answer.

He didn’t smile right away.

Didn’t speak.

Just looked at her.

Soaked in moonlight, bare and bold and more breathtaking than anything he’d ever prayed for, even back when he didn’t believe in things like prayer. She was art made flesh. Fire with a pulse. A midnight miracle wrapped in water and want.

And God, did he want.

Not just the sharp ache of her thighs around his waist or the taste of her lips on his tongue—but her.

The girl who ran from the noise of the world and slipped into shadows just to remember how to breathe.

The girl who didn’t ask to be followed but left a trail he’d never stop chasing.

His hands found her waist again, fingers spread wide like maybe if he held her tight enough, time would obey him.

“Amore mio,” he whispered, voice low and full of gravel and gold, “you ruin me just by existing.”

He kissed her jaw, her cheek, the corner of her mouth—each one slow, each one deliberate. A benediction disguised as affection. A worship carved into skin.

“You think I could watch you float like that… moonlight kissing every inch of you… and not come find you?”

Another kiss. Just beneath her ear this time.

“You disappear into the dark like it belongs to you. Like you are it.”

His thumb traced the curve of her lower back beneath the water. Reverent. Anchored.

“And I follow,” he breathed. “Every time. Because I don’t want to live in a world where I don’t get to find you in it.”

Her leg tightened around him. Her arms drew him closer. But Nico wasn’t in a rush. Not tonight.

Tonight was ceremony.

“I don’t need to make you fall in love with me again,” he said, voice hushed against her mouth. “Because I never let you fall out.”

He kissed her then—kissed her like a man who’d survived a war and found peace in the shape of her spine. Like everything he’d ever lost had led him here.

And when it broke, when their foreheads touched and the only sound was the water lapping gently around them, he added:

“I’ll worship you ’til the sun comes up, Lilith Valentine.”

A pause.

Then, wrecked:

“And then I’ll do it again.”

His fingers tangled in her hair.

And he sank into her like he was home.

She let the silence linger.

Let his words melt down her spine, branding her in places only he could reach. The sound of his voice—amore mio, low and ruined—wrapped around her like silk dipped in sin.

Lilith didn’t flinch. Didn’t soften.

She burned.

And she let him watch her do it.

Because God, she wanted him to.

The water cradled them, warm and rippling, catching the silver of the moon and the heat between their bodies. Her leg stayed hooked around his waist, anchoring them together like gravity had a favorite.

She dragged her nails lightly across the nape of his neck, just enough to make him inhale, just enough to remind him that she knew what she did to him.

“You follow me like it’s devotion,” she whispered, lips ghosting along the line of his jaw. “Like I’m some ancient truth only your soul remembers.”

Her fingers dipped lower, curling against his ribs beneath the water. “But you’re the one I’d build altars to, Nico. The one I’d ruin worlds for, just to feel you like this.”

She tilted her head, eyes searching his—dark and luminous and devastating in their honesty.

“I don’t float to be found,” she murmured, sultry and sure. “I float because I know you’ll come. Because even the stars aren’t as constant as you are.”

And when he looked at her like that—like she was the only miracle he’d ever believe in—her walls didn’t just crack. They willingly collapsed.

She kissed him like she was claiming something eternal.

Mouth slow, lips parted, tasting the promise in every breath he gave her.

When they broke apart, she didn’t move far. Just let her nose graze his, her voice a low, velvet purr.

“You talk about worship,” she said, circling her hips against his under the water, breath warm against his lips. “But what we have? It’s holy.”

One hand slid into his hair.

The other gripped his shoulder.

“I’m yours,” she whispered, voice soaked in certainty and sin. “Every piece. Every scar. Every breath between moonrise and morning.”

Then, with that soft, knowing smile she only ever wore for him:

“Now kiss me like the moon’s watching.”

Because it was.

And she wanted it to see everything.

He kissed her like the world had ended behind them and this—she—was all that remained.

No hesitation. No restraint. Just the aching kind of worship that belonged to men who’d never known grace until it looked them in the eye and curled its legs around their waist.

She tasted like sin and salvation, like midnight honey and some ancient prayer he didn’t know he remembered until it was whispered back into his mouth.

And fuck, he’d die here.

Drown in her.

Gladly.

When they finally broke apart, he didn’t move far. Couldn’t. Just rested his forehead against hers, their breaths tangled, the water lapping softly around them like applause from the moon itself.

“You want altars, amore?” he rasped, voice wrecked and raw, hands splayed wide across her lower back. “You are mine. My altar. My storm. My fucking religion.”

His lips brushed her cheek, her jaw, the corner of her mouth—featherlight now, like he was tasting holiness.

“I’d follow you into any fire. Any ruin. Any night like this one. Because you don’t need saving, Lilith.”

His hands tightened just slightly, pulling her closer.

“But I’d burn the world anyway. Just to keep your name safe on my tongue.”

He looked at her then—really looked—and it was too much and not enough all at once.

“You’re every line I never knew how to write,” he whispered. “And I don’t want perfect. I want this. Your sharp edges, your soft dark, the way you haunt and heal me at the same time.”

A pause.

Then softer, breath brushing her lips like a vow.

“I love you.”

He let the words sit there, glowing between them like a secret the stars already knew.

“And I’ll say it in every language. Every lifetime. Every time you float away just to see if I’ll follow.”

He kissed her again—slow and deep and forever.

Then pulled her flush to his chest and held her there like the moon wasn’t just watching.

It was witnessing.

The moon hung high and heavy above them, suspended like a silent witness—silver and breathless and reverent. Its glow spilled over the water, turning the pool into molten light, into something ancient and sacred, like a mirror meant only for gods and ghosts and lovers who believed in both.

Lilith felt it everywhere.

The worship in his touch.

The gravity in his breath.

The way he said I love you like it was more than confession—like it was ritual.

She didn’t speak at first.

Didn’t need to.

Because she felt it. In the ache that bloomed low and slow in her belly. In the shiver that ran up her spine when his hands claimed her like they belonged there. In the way the stars seemed to tremble above them, as if even they had no words for the holiness unfolding below.

He had called her his religion.

And for the first time in her life, she believed it.

Her fingers slid through his hair, nails dragging just enough to make him inhale like she’d blessed him with pain. Her mouth ghosted over his throat, her voice low and laced with honey and heat.

“Then worship me,” she whispered, slow and sure, a siren in moonlight. “Not with flowers. Not with words. But with your body. Your mouth. Your ruin.”

She let her lips brush his jaw—barely there, maddeningly slow.

“I am your altar, Nico. So fall to your knees. Offer me your devotion. Drown with me and call it prayer.”

The water moved around them like silk, like smoke, like destiny shifting into place. Her thighs tightened at his hips, her breath caught between his lips, her heart a wild, blooming thing in her chest.

She kissed him again.

Not soft.

Not sweet.

Worshipped him right back.

And when she pulled away, just enough to look at him—dripping, undone, wrecked by love and hers and only hers—her voice went molten.

“Make the moon jealous.”

Then she smiled.

Dark. Divine.

And pulled him under.

“You told the moon to be jealous. Baby, she listened.”

He didn’t speak at first.

Didn’t trust his voice not to break open and spill all the aching reverence inside him.

Because what do you say when the woman you love calls herself your altar?

When she looks at you with starlight in her mouth and ruin on her lips and asks to be worshipped?

You fall.

And God, did he.

Not with ceremony. Not with fanfare.

Just with everything.

Every breath. Every heartbeat. Every slow slide of his hands over the water-wet curve of her waist, like he was mapping the sacred. Like her skin held scripture. Like his touch was a vow he would never take back.

“You think I make the moon jealous?” he finally whispered, voice gravel-edged and reverent as prayer. “Lilith… you’re the reason it shows up at all.”

He kissed her jaw. Her cheek. The place behind her ear that made her breath stutter like devotion lived there.

“You called yourself an altar, but you’re wrong,” he murmured. “You’re the whole damn cathedral. And I’m not just on my knees for you, amore. I’m reborn.”

His hand found her face, thumb brushing over her lower lip, slow and unshaking. The way he looked at her then—like she was made of fire and myth and everything he didn’t think he was allowed to believe in—it was a sermon.

And he wasn’t preaching.

He was listening.

Learning.

Worshipping.

One kiss at a time.

And when she pulled him under?

He didn’t fight it.

Didn’t need air.

Because she was breath.

She was the thing he’d been trying to find his whole life in verses and voices and the space between beats on stage.

And now?

She was his.

Moon-soaked. Divine. Undone.

And he’d follow her into every midnight after this one.
No fear.
No question.

Only love.

Always.

She grinned when he said it—You’re the reason it shows up at all—a slow, wicked curve of her mouth that made the stars flicker like they felt it too.

But she didn’t answer.

Not with words.

Instead, she slipped her fingers from his jaw, let them trail down his chest—soft, teasing, leaving goosebumps in her wake—and then…

She pushed away.

Not harsh. Not fast. Just enough.

Just enough to leave him wanting.

She drifted back through the water like she was the moon, like gravity had finally let go and she’d remembered what it felt like to float. The dark silk of the pool kissed every inch of her skin as she glided through it, bare and glowing and maddeningly unbothered. Her hair fanned out behind her like ink in water. Her eyes stayed on him. Daring him.

Daring the night to keep up.

She reached the far end of the pool and rested her elbows on the ledge, back arched slightly, her silhouette carved from starlight and slow seduction. A statue if statues ever breathed. Lilith Valentine: Midnight Edition.

The cool marble beneath her arms, the warm water at her waist, and the man who loved her more than language could hold—God, it made her feel invincible.

She tilted her head toward him. Her voice was low, a velvet drawl that slid between his ribs and stayed there.

“Well?”

A slow blink.

A darker smile.

“You said you were reborn. Come prove it.”

She didn’t beckon.

Didn’t have to.

She just watched him with the kind of quiet, knowing hunger that made galaxies come undone.

And when he finally moved—when the water rippled behind him and she knew he was on his way—she turned her face back to the sky.

Let it see what he saw.

Let it ache for the things it could never hold.

Let it witness what love looked like when it wasn’t afraid to burn.

He didn’t move at first.

Didn’t blink. Didn’t breathe.

Just watched her.

The way the water kissed her skin like it belonged there. The way moonlight bled down her shoulders, her back arched over the marble like a goddess carved from devotion and defiance.

Lilith Valentine: midnight edition.

Holy fuck.

He swallowed hard, pulse thundering where her name lived in his throat. She hadn’t beckoned—but every molecule of his body leaned toward her like gravity had rewritten its rules. For her. Always for her.

She said come prove it.

And he would.

Not with promises. Not with poetry.

With his mouth. His hands. His ruin.

He pushed forward through the water, slow and deliberate—like a man walking into a temple, not a pool. Each ripple shimmered with silver and something sacred. She turned her face to the sky, giving him her silhouette and nothing else.

Trusting he’d show up.

Trusting he’d see her.

And God, did he.

“Bellissima,” he breathed, reverent. Wrecked.

His fingers found her waist beneath the water, sliding over slick skin, anchoring them in the dark. He pulled her gently, inch by inch, until her back met his chest and the marble turned warm from her body pressed between him and the night.

“You don’t even know what you’ve done to me,” he murmured into the curve of her neck. “I was dead in every lifetime before this one.”

She shivered against him, and he swore he felt it in his bones.

He kissed her shoulder. Her spine. The hollow beneath her ear. Not hurried. Not claiming.

Worshiping.

Because that’s what she asked for.

That’s what she was.

And when he turned her in his arms—water lapping at their ribs, moonlight painting halos in her hair—he looked at her like the universe had folded in on itself just to give him this moment.

This girl.

This love.

“I was reborn,” Nico said low, brushing his lips across hers, “the second you looked at me like I was more than something to survive.”

He kissed her once.

Then again.

Then deeper.

Hands in her hair, heart in his throat, soul in every slow drag of his mouth on hers.

And when they finally parted—chests heaving, eyes glazed with something holy—he pressed his forehead to hers and whispered, “Let the stars watch, amore. Let them learn what worship looks like when it stops pretending to be gentle.”

Then he sank with her—into the water, into the dark, into the kind of love that turned altars into aftermath.

And made the moon burn with envy.

Her laugh was low. Dangerous.

The kind that didn’t echo, didn’t rush. Just curled around him like smoke and slow sin.

“You done, priest?” Lilith purred, her voice all velvet and venom, a wicked contrast to the reverence he’d just poured into her skin. She didn’t pull away. Didn’t break the spell. She stayed molded to him, bare and glistening, her thighs brushing his beneath the water like a promise she hadn’t quite made yet.

But was about to.

She let him feel her smile against his mouth before she kissed him again—hotter this time. Hungrier. Less hallelujah, more holy shit. Her nails skimmed up the back of his neck, tangled in his hair like she was about to drag him under for real.

“You come in here like a saint,” she whispered against his lips, breath teasing, hips rolling just enough to make him feel it, “but I know better.”

A kiss to the edge of his jaw. Slow. Intentional. Just to make him twitch.

“You think you’re doing the worshipping,” she continued, her mouth brushing the shell of his ear, “but baby… you’re already on your knees.”

Then she moved—arms around his neck, legs hooking around his waist like a snare. The water surged with them, and the marble at her back turned into a throne the second she used it to arch into him.

“Go ahead, Nico,” she murmured, wicked and warm and already breathless. “Let the stars watch.”

Her teeth grazed his lower lip.

“Let them see what you do when your goddess takes.”

And she did.

With a grin like temptation, a grip like destiny, and a heat that made the moon blush.

No prayers now.

Only pleasure.

God, she was unholy.

Nico didn’t even pretend to fight it—not the words, not the wicked curl of her smile, not the way her body wrapped around him like a curse he never wanted to lift. Every move she made was a liturgy of chaos and seduction, and he was ruined in her hands.

“You think I’m done?” he breathed, voice raw, lips brushing her temple as his hands slid down to grip her thighs beneath the water. His palms fit there too perfectly—like even the gods had shaped him to hold her.

“You haven’t even heard the second verse yet, Lilith.”

She arched into him like a queen draped over sin, water slick and moonlight-drenched, and Nico swore he’d never recover from the image. From her. Every inch of her carved from desire and divinity.

He leaned in again, but not for a kiss—not yet.

Just to rest his mouth against the curve of her jaw.

To feel her pulse stutter beneath his lips.

To mark the place where her breath hitched.

“You think I’m kneeling?” he whispered against her skin. “Babe, I live there. I built my kingdom at your feet.”

And then—he kissed her.

Not soft. Not slow. Not saintly.

Starved.

The kind of kiss that left nothing untouched. That spoke in tongue and teeth and everything he’d been dying to say since the moment she called herself his goddess.

He pressed her deeper into the marble, water crashing around them like applause. His body a prayer. His mouth a declaration. His hands moving with the kind of reverence that took.

“You wanna take?” he growled against her throat, nipping once, letting her feel the teeth behind the worship. “Then take. But just remember—what you own, owns you back.”

He lifted her higher, locking her tighter around him, like the space between them had always been a lie.

And as her nails raked down his back and her mouth broke open with another laugh—low and wrecked and perfect—Nico smiled.

Dark.

Devoted.

Absolutely destroyed.

Because the stars could watch.

Hell, the heavens could weep.

But he would still be here.

At the mercy of a goddess.

And loving every second of it.
