Sam hadn't actually intended to go that crazy on Hailie but she'd also expected someone to pull her off faster. And she certainly hadn't expected that someone to be Leighton. "Someone had to put her in her place for once." she told Jess as he cleaned up the last of the wounds that she'd gotten on her arms from fake nails scratching her during the brawl. She knew that he was more worried about the possible consequences of her actions than anything but in this moment, Sam really didn't care about what might happen to her. At least now, maybe Hailie would be too afraid to torment her anymore.
"And no more lecturing me, please? I know it was wrong, I know that I shouldn't have, I'm going to talk to my therapist first thing next session about my short fuse but, like, aren't you even the tiniest bit proud of me? Come on! I kicked her butt! And... if she presses charges, I'll deal with it when it happens. Until then, can we please please please enjoy the rest of our night? I don't want her ruining our first night as official girlfriend and boyfriend." She pouted and gave him puppy dog eyes as he finished putting the last band-aid on and finally caved to her. "Thank you! Now you can have your cigarette." Sam gave him a quick kiss before leading him out of the bathroom. "We'll be right back. Again." she told their friends as they passed through the living room where Leighton and Spencer were. "Love you!" she directed straight at Leighton. "Make smart choices, you two. Smarter than mine." She joked with a wink before slinking out the door. |
“And that someone had to be you?” he rolled his eyes, trying to clean her up to the best of his ability. He had sobered up a lot due to the events that had transpired, but he still had a decent buzz. It could have been worse than what it was. Sam only had two busted knees and cuts on her arms and legs. He couldn't say the same for Hailie. “Looks like you're not giving me head on your knees anytime soon, huh?” Jess mumbled, keeping a straight face while placing a bandaid on one of her knees. He was only trying to lighten the mood. He hadn't been the most pleasant on the car ride back to his house.
“I wasn’t lecturing you.” He had been, though, but only because Jess was still trying to get his brain to process everything that had happened. He continued to bandage her up and clean her open cuts as she rambled. “Of course, I’m proud of you,” he said, kneeling in front of her. “But that doesn’t change the fact I’m worried for you. I guess it’s a good thing we know a lawyer, huh?” Jess joked, looking up at her, referring to Spencer’s mom. “Everything will work out in the end,” he said more for himself than for her. His girlfriend was right, though. Jess didn’t want to let Hailie ruin their first night as an exclusive couple. It was what she wanted to happen. “No more talking about the witch,” he agreed. “Of course, baby. Anything for you,” he responded, kissing her back softly. “I gotchu, no matter what.” Jess could never stay mad at Sam. It wasn’t in his DNA. “No more fights, though. With anyone,” he warned, getting up and following behind her. As they passed through the living room to get to the back patio, Jess didn’t say anything. Instead, he just gave the middle finger to his best friend and smiled before disappearing out the open sliding glass door. Once out on the patio, Jess made sure the door was closed behind them, not wanting to let smoke into the house. His parents were chill with his smoking habits as long as he stayed outside. He reached into his back pocket and pulled out his pack of cigarettes and a half-smoked blunt he had forgotten he had. “Ayeeee.” He sat at the outside table, immediately pulling Sam into his lap. “Here, you can light that,” he said, using his right hand to do everything as his left arm securely wrapped around her waist. After his first deep inhale of nicotine, Jess felt his whole body relax. He let his head fall back, blowing the smoke into the air, respectfully not wanting it blowing around Sam’s face. Once he took a few more puffs, he butted out the cigarette and took the blunt from his girlfriend. “I know, like, we didn’t talk about us dating or anything before tonight, but I think it makes sense, you know? And you make me happy,” He said before taking a few minor drags off the blunt, trying to prevent himself from coughing. His throat was sore from all the screaming, and he didn’t want to irritate it any further if he could help it. Jess casually glanced back into the house, and to his surprise, he saw Leighton and Spencer kissing. He used his free hand to rub his eyes, thinking he just imagined things. However, that wasn’t the case. “Ahhh… um, when the fuck did that happen?” |
Despite the disastrous events from tonight’s bonfire, Leighton wasn’t complaining. After months of tiptoeing around each other, she and Spencer were no longer at a standstill. Limbo, maybe, but at a standstill, no. Yeah, he still hadn't verbally come out and admitted he had feelings for her, but he kissed her back and held her hand the whole car ride back to Jess’. That had to mean something. Right?
The two sat on the couch next to each while Jess tended to Sam’s wounds in the downstairs bathroom. Leighton and Spencer occasionally laughed, listening to their banter back and forth. Jess was the only guy Leighton had seen be able to tame her best friend. It was no secret that Sam was a handful and a half. Leighton was initially pissed about the fight, but it was funnier now that it was over. Leighton just hoped Sam wasn’t going to get in trouble. Leighton slumped down and rested her head on Spencer’s shoulder, occasionally looking up at him to see if he noticed. He'd been focusing on the tv. She couldn’t explain the chokehold that Spencer had on her. It was as if all her standards and morals went out the window when it came to him. All she wanted was him. When he finally caught her looking, her heart dropped. All she could think about was his lips and how much she wanted to kiss him again. Their moment was quickly interrupted by their two friends. She frowned and sat up, slightly annoyed, “Okay, Sam. I got it, Sam,” Leighton was saying anything to get her friend to stop talking and get them on their way. Leighton was turning to look back at him when Spencer abruptly kissed her. It initially startled her because it was unexpected, but when she realized what was happening, Leighton immediately kissed him back. She had plenty of dreams like this involving Spencer, but never in her wildest dreams did Leighton think it’d become a reality. As their kisses deepened, Leighton tried to remember that they were in someone’s living room, and anyone could walk in on them. |
Spencer was probably one of the only ones not worried about Sam's fight. Yes, he was incredibly ripped but he also knew that his mom would help her if he asked and the worst that Sam would probably get is community service. He was more focused on Leighton, trying to decide what his next move was or if he should even make a move at all. The kiss had been amazing but was he truly ready to be a one woman man? He didn't know yet and with the chaos of the night, he hadn't had much time to ponder it over.
So as they sat and watched television, he tried to figure out what he wanted. 'It would be pretty rad to get to kiss her more and do other stuff too but like that comes at a price, but fuck does she smell amazing. And like she's one of few girls that isn't annoying when we're not making out.' Her leaning on him caused his teenage brain to turn to more inappropriate thoughts but he remained calm and kept staring forward. Actually focusing on the screen this time, he remembered they'd been watching a nature documentary. Sam had put it on to show Jess how fighting was just a way of life or some bs like that before he'd calmed her enough to get her cleaned up. Finally looking down at Leighton, Spencer found that she was already looking up at him. His eyes didn't leave her when their friends passed by, he gave them a two figure salute then waited for Leighton to bring her attention back to him. Once she did, Spencer wasted no time pulling her in for another kiss. He wanted another taste and make sure that it hadn't just been a one time thing before he fully committed to the idea of being a one woman kind of guy. Spencer deepened the kiss once he was certain that she was into it. He didn't care of their friends saw, they were probably busy doing the same thing, if not more. One of his hands worked it's way into her hair, on the back of her head, as he tried his best not to get too handsy. He wasn't trying to get ahead of himself; she was better than the girls he was used to and she deserved better treatment. There would be a time for him to explore her body and that time was not yet. Reluctantly withdrawing from the kiss, he trailed a few kisses up and down her jawline before pulling back enough to look at her. "I didn't want to stop... but I need you to hear this first. You are an amazing kisser. And gorgeous and funny and smart as hell." he started, his fingers making their way out of her hair so that he could push his hair back and out of the way. "What I'm trying to say is you deserve the full princess treatment... You want to go to the valentine's dance with me?" It certainly wasn't some grand gesture on the back of a truck but he was hoping she'd realize what he meant by asking her to some stupid dance that he didn't even care about. |
"Yes, that someone absolutely had to be me." Sam groaned, annoyed that he would even ask that. No one else seemed to be volunteering to do it and every good main character needed an arch nemesis, and in Sam's world, she was absolutely the main character. Her hands landed on her hips and she glared down at him after the blowjob comment, pretending to be offended. "Nope. None of those for you for a whiiiiileee." She lied. The way he had been taking care of her tonight had earned him multiple. "But I think I'll still keep you around Nurse Jess." she teased with a wink. "No more fights. Promise. These fists of fury are only going to used for defense from now on."
Sam's eyes lit up when he pulled out the roach; suddenly this smoke break became a lot more fun for her. Cigarettes had never really called to her but she loved the extra alone time with Jess. Even in all the excitement she'd noticed how cozy and close their friends had been with each other since the bonfire, surely they wouldn't mind the alone time either. Most of the adrenaline had worn off and the weed was making relax some, Sam finally felt like she could actually rest and enjoy her night. "Awww, you make me happy too, Jessabelle." It was a ridiculous nickname she had given him long ago but she loved it because it was something only for her to use. "Yeah, we never really talked about it but like we practically already were a couple, just with a different label. Labels are lame but like, I must admit, while you've only been my boyfriend for a couple hours now, and you're sort of my only real boyfriend. Eric didn't count. It was sixth grade and lasted like two days but you!? You are definitely the best boyfriend." Sam took the blunt back and was in the middle of inhaling when her eyes scanned to see what he was talking about. Her eyes widened and she first pumped the air before pulling the blunt from her lips. "I... I... I don't know but let them have their privacy." Grasping his chin in her fingers, she carefully tugged his face to look at her. "Eyes over here buddy. Remember? I'm lethal." She held up her fists and chuckled before hitting the blunt once more and handing it back. Sam knew that she wasn't actually intimidating, she was far too tiny for that. Her win against Hailie had been purely circumstantial: a mixture of pent-up rage and crazy and an opponent who spent her free time having spa days or laying around on the beach. |
Everything Leighton was currently feeling was beyond anything she had ever experienced before. She had only kissed one other person. So, Leighton chose to play it safe and follow Spencer’s lead. His kisses were gentle and passionate, and with every brush of his tongue against hers, she found herself wanting more.
“How are you even real?” Leighton stared back at Spencer, completely memorized by everything he did and said. He’d just given her the best kiss she’d ever received, and now he was showering her with compliments and asking her to the Valentine's Day dance. “I mean, yeah. Yes, of course. I’d love to go with you,” she replied, nodding and smiling. Leighton may have seemed calm on the outside, but she was panicking on the inside. Spencer had more experience than she ever would. Now, he was giving her a chance, and Leighton didn't want to let him down. Back home, boys like Spencer didn't give Leighton a second glance and only talked to her when it benefited them. Leighton cleared her throat, shifting in her seat nervously because she didn't know how this conversation would end, but she felt it needed to be said. “I’m not going to get my hopes up... no, that sounds bad. What I mean is, there's no pressure from me to be anything.” Spencer asking her to the dance was a big deal, and she didn't want him to get caught up in his thoughts and change his mind. Since Spencer promised her royal treatment, Leighton thought it was only fair that she bent a few of her rules, too. Leighton leaned forward, stopping millimeters from his mouth. “I have a secret,” she started and licked her lips. “If you play your cards right, I might not let you end up with blue balls,” Leighton smirked and pulled back, resting against the pillows. When another strand of Spencer’s fell, she reached out and carefully pushed it back, smiling at him. It was something she had always wanted to do. |
Jess groaned, hearing his awful nickname, “Alright, Samara.” He shot back, rolling his eyes. “Why Jessabelle? Like why?” Jess was only getting feisty because he was getting sleepy.
“Labels are lame?” Jess pretended to be offended. “Fine. If labels are so lame, I revoke our boyfriend and girlfriend label.” He sat back, playfully crossing his arms over his chest, “You’re now just my fuck buddy again,” his head tilted back and forth while giving her a dramatic attitude. He took a few more hits off the blunt. “I better be your best boyfriend,” he said, holding his breath to keep the smoke in his lungs longer. “I cleaned all your wounds and bandaged them up. I don’t do that for just anyone,” he said, once exhaling. Jess could tell he was pushing Sam’s buttons, so he decided to tone it down a little. “Okay, okay, I’m done. I promise.” Jess said, holding up his arm to deflect her slaps. “Ow! That hurt,” he whined, frowning. “You’re so mean,” he said with a pout. Jess shifted around in his seat, trying to get comfortable. Once he got situated, he pulled Sam back, so she was leaning back against his chest. “I’m starting to fade, baby,” he admitted, yawning. Slightly disappointed that they couldn’t go back into the house yet. “Are we going to have to stay out here forever while those two get to make out on my comfy couch?” Jess wrapped his arms around Sam’s torso, securing her in place. “Are you spending the night or going home?” He asked, the side of his head resting against hers. Jess wouldn’t mind having her stay. “Spence and Leighton could sleep in the basement. The pullout should be big enough.” Jess’ basement wasn’t a dingy one. His family had recently renovated it. There was a full-size kitchen, a half bath, and a new flat screen hanging on the wall. |
Spencer smirked as Leighton swooned over him. He'd never had any troubles getting girls, that was obvious. It'd almost become predictable and boring for him, however. He'd say sweet things, the girl would fall all over herself, and then usually put out in one way or another. As silly as it was, Spencer didn't want that with Leighton; he didn't want to treat her just like one of his numerous other conquests. He'd been acting like a tool for these past couple of months and he needed to make it up to her, she needed to be taken care of before he got his. Plus, he found it harder to be his normal playboy self around her, probably because he actually cared for her unlike the other girls.
Chuckling and shaking his head, Spencer adjusted slightly and rested his arm on the couch behind her. He hadn't expected asking her to make him as nervous as it had but when she said yes, he felt like he could relax again. "Yes, no pressure is good but I'm going to be better. I mean it. No more acting like an idiot... slutting my way around the school, none of it. I'm real and I'm yours." Spencer would be lying if he said he wasn't a little worried that he might slip up somehow, but he should at least give it a try. For Leighton's sake. If it didn't work out, then he could go back to his monogamy hating ways with more validity for despising it. He hoped that didn't happen though because he wasn't ready to lose her. Spencer was already having a hard enough time showing restraint without Leighton confessing her little secret and playing with his hair. Shocked by everything, Spencer froze up for a moment. "Uh... are we sure that you are even real?" he joked, finally regaining his composure. "As amazing as that sounds, and it does sound amazing, I don't want you feeling pressured into that too soon, okay?" Spencer had no clue what mysteries her history held - it didn't feel like his place to ask - but rushing things didn't seem like the best idea given their own history. Wrapping his arm around her shoulders and pulling her in closer, he kissed the side of her head and glanced at the tv just in time to see a lion attack a gazelle. "Fuck yeah! Sorry. That was sick. But, uh, yeah... What was I saying?" |
"Ew! My government name? Really? Really?" Sam squinted her eyes and glared at him for a moment before returning to smiling smugly at him. "Jessabelle, because it's lame enough that I don't have to worry about anyone else trying to call you it. It's strictly mine."
"And yeah, labels are lame. But like everything is lame. Even the things I don't think are lame, are lame. I like to keep people confused, it's a great defense mechanism." She explained. Sam genuinely looking sad as she thought about how much it would suck if he was being serious. She knew that he was only joking but now that she had the official labels, she didn't want to lose them. "You take that back right now!" she exclaimed, playfully swatting at him. Sam honestly loved the way that they could go back and forth like this. She didn't feel like she had to tone herself down, she could just be herself and he still liked her. "Fine. Truce." Moving her hair out of the way as he pulled her in closer. She wiggled a little until she got comfortable in the new position, holding onto his arms once he wrapped them around her, and she stared at the night sky. "I dunno, I can't see them but we gotta let them have their moment." "I wish, but we can't. I told my mom that we'd be back by one at the latest. So... we probably should get going soon. Also maybe not the best idea to have those two," Sam threw her thumb up in the direction of their friends. "sleeping together. They might be kissing and making up now but he still needs to show her she's his one and only. That's what she wants and he better give it to her before he tries giving anything else to her. Come on, let's break them up and get going." Sam patted his arms til he released her and she stood up. Turning to him she offered him a hand up and they headed back inside. |
