Kai Mercer 04-24-2026 11:42 AM

Hearing that word—*baby*—tear through the quiet room in that shattered, desperate tone nearly snapped Kai’s famed restraint clean in half.

Lennon Rae did not beg. She didn’t surrender control, and she certainly didn't let herself unravel this completely, this beautifully, for just anyone. The sheer, intoxicating weight of the fact that she was doing it for him sent a spike of pure, primal adrenaline straight to his core. He loved her like this. Unguarded, feverish, and entirely his.

"That's it," he murmured against her damp skin, the deep vibration of his rough voice sending another violent shiver down her legs.

He gave her exactly what she was asking for. Kai’s broad hands shifted from her thighs to grip her hips, his long fingers splaying wide across her hip bones, his thumbs pressing deeply into her soft skin to lock her securely in place. He wasn't going to let her buck away. He closed his mouth fully over her, trading the lazy, teasing laps for a tight, relentless rhythm. His tongue flicked directly over that swollen, aching bundle of nerves, applying a firm, driving pressure that perfectly matched the frantic, stuttering hitch of her breathing.

He felt the immediate, violent response in her bared body. Her nails dug like anchors into his scalp, and a sharp, broken scream tore from her throat. He swallowed her cries, drinking in her sweet, slick heat as he pushed her higher. He could feel the tension pulling her taut, the way her muscles locked and shuddered under his hands. She was climbing fast, the fever spiking, hovering right on the absolute precipice of a devastating release.
He could feel her right there on the edge. But he wasn't going to let her fall. Not yet. They had the rest of their lives, and he wanted to draw out this exquisite ache for as long as he possibly could.

Right as her hips gave that tell-tale, erratic jerk—the exact moment she was about to tip blindly over the edge—Kai abruptly pulled back.

The sudden loss of contact ripped a desperate, breathless whine from Lennon's chest, her eyes flying open in shocked deprivation. But before her brain could fully process the loss, Kai was already moving. He surged up the length of her bare, flushed body with terrifying speed. Before her lungs could pull in enough air to form a single word of protest, he framed her jaw with his hands and crashed his mouth over hers.

He kissed her fiercely, completely swallowing her frustrated gasp. It was a wet, consuming collision, his tongue sweeping deep into her mouth, mimicking the exact, punishing rhythm he had just denied her body below. He let her taste her own slick sweetness on his lips, pouring all his pent-up, burning possession into the slide of their mouths, distracting her with pure sensory overload.

He didn't give her a second to recover her bearings. Keeping his mouth firmly fused to hers, his hands slid down her ribcage to clamp tightly around her waist. With a sudden, powerful shift of his core, Kai rolled them.

The world spun, and his back hit the mattress with a soft thud. He brought her with him seamlessly, settling her right back on top of him.

Lennon landed straddling his hips, her flushed, quivering thighs bracketing his waist, completely bare and beautifully disheveled. Kai broke the kiss just enough to let them both drag in a ragged breath, his chest heaving beneath her. His hands slid up her heated spine, his dark, heavy gaze locking onto hers with a wicked, utterly devoted satisfaction. He had her suspended right on the jagged edge of ruin, completely stripped of her armor, and he fully intended to keep her there.

Kai watched the realization wash over her.

Her chest was heaving, the soft, flushed swells of her breasts rising and falling in sharp, jagged increments. Her dark eyes, still blown wide and hazy with the blinding high he’d just dragged her away from, stared down at him through the messy tangle of her hair. She looked completely wrecked. Frustrated, entirely exposed, and more beautiful than he could fully comprehend.

A soft, ragged exhale punched out of her—a breathless, wordless demand—and her hips instinctively rolled down against his, blindly seeking the devastating pressure he had just stolen.

The blunt, slick slide of her wet heat settling directly over the rigid, aching length of his arousal nearly made Kai groan out loud. It was absolute agony, but he refused to give in. His large hands tightened instantly on her waist, his long fingers pressing firmly into her hips to hold her steady, making sure she couldn’t chase the friction she was so desperate for.
"Not yet," Kai murmured, his voice a low, rough rumble in the quiet room.

His thumbs stroked the sweat-dampened curve of her hipbones, his touch meant to soothe but only serving to highlight the heavy, burning tension thrumming between them.

"We have time, Baby," he told her softly, his gaze holding hers with an unwavering, devoted certainty. "I’m not letting you rush through this. I want you to feel every second of it."

He loved the sharp, fiery glare she shot him—a brief, glorious flash of the intense, untamable woman the rest of the world saw. But it melted instantly, her heavy eyelids fluttering shut as his hands slid slowly up the sides of her ribs.

Kai charted the elegant, curving line of her waist, his broad palms smoothing over her heated skin, absorbing the tiny, involuntary tremors that were still echoing through her limbs from the denied climax. He wanted her to feel the absolute gravity of this. To understand that this wasn't just a frantic physical collision they were going to burn through and move past.

He dragged his hands up her back until his fingers reached her shoulders, applying a gentle, steady pressure to urge her down. She went willingly, her resistance completely gone, collapsing into a heavy, boneless melt against his chest.

Kai wrapped his arms tightly around her, one hand tangling deep into the messy silk of her hair at the nape of her neck while the other anchored her bare hips securely to his. He could feel the frantic, bird-like flutter of her heartbeat hammering directly against his own ribs, perfectly syncing with the heavy, erratic thud in his own chest.

He pressed a long, searing kiss to the bare, damp slope of her shoulder, his lips lingering against her fevered skin.

"You're right where you're supposed to be," he whispered, his breath warm against her ear, completely unapologetic for the exquisite torture he was putting her through.

To prove his point, Kai let his hips roll upward—just a fraction of an inch. It was a deliberate, agonizingly slow slide of thick, burning friction directly against her swollen, slick center. The contact was just enough to draw a helpless, muffled whimper into the crook of his neck, her nails lightly scoring the hard musculature of his shoulders in silent retaliation.

Kai just smiled against her skin, his hold on her remaining rock-solid and deeply grounding. He was going to give her everything she wanted, but he was going to make sure she memorized exactly what it felt like to be entirely consumed by him first.

Lennon Rae 04-24-2026 12:06 PM

The helpless whimper vibrating against his neck slowly melted into a shaky, defeated sigh. Lennon let her eyes fall shut, completely surrendering her weight against the solid, grounding heat of his chest. Every nerve in her body was screaming for release, strung so tight she felt like she might shatter into a million pieces, but the low, devoted rumble of his voice wrapped around her like a heavy blanket.

"I know," she breathed, the confession damp and ragged against his collarbone. She did know. There was nowhere else in the world she could strip off her armor like this, nowhere else she would ever let herself be this deliciously, completely ruined.

But Lennon had never been one to simply take a defeat, even one as exquisite as this.

If he was going to make her burn, she was going to make sure he was right there in the flames with her. Opening her heavy, dark eyes, she shifted just a fraction. Her hand slid down from his scarred shoulder, her nails trailing a slow, agonizingly light path over the hard, shifting planes of his pectorals. Her fingers found the dusting of dark hair on his chest, gently weaving through it, tracing lazy, taunting circles directly over his hammering heart.

She could feel the rigid, heavy length of him pressed flush against her wet heat, and she used that leverage. Very deliberately, she tilted her chin down. Her hair fell like a messy curtain around them, boxing them into their own private world as she parted her swollen lips and pressed a slow, agonizingly wet lick directly over his flat nipple.

She felt the immediate, involuntary shudder rip through his powerful frame, and a wicked, breathless smile curved against his hot skin. She dragged her tongue over the tight peak once more before catching it lightly between her teeth, biting down just enough to test that famed restraint of his.

"You want me to feel every second?" she whispered, her voice still completely wrecked as she lifted her head just enough to trap his dark, heavy gaze.
To drive the point home, she rolled her hips down against his—a slow, deliberate, punishing grind into the thick friction he had just used to torture her. Her dark eyes flashed with a daring, feverish challenge, completely egging him on.

"Then stop talking, baby," she challenged, a soft pant escaping her lips. "And let's see how long you can hold out."

Kai Mercer 04-24-2026 12:25 PM

The sharp, stinging pull of her teeth followed by the heavy, deliberate roll of her hips sent a violent shockwave of pure fire straight to Kai’s groin.

His jaw clenched instantly, the muscles in his neck cording tight as a rough, guttural curse tore out of his throat. He couldn't have stopped the sound if he tried. The agonizing friction of her wet, swollen heat grinding directly against the aching, rigid length of his cock was completely blinding.

Kai’s hands clamped down on her hips with uncompromising force, his long fingers biting into her soft, sweat-slicked skin to halt her movement entirely.

He stared up at her, his chest heaving under her hands. Her dark eyes were flashing with that untamable, feverish defiance—the exact same fire that had completely captivated him from the moment they reconnected. Only Lennon could be completely unraveled, begging for him seconds ago, and immediately pivot to challenging his absolute sanity the moment she caught her breath.

God, he loved her. He loved her so much it felt like his ribs were going to crack from the sheer pressure of it.

"Is that right?" Kai rasped, his voice dropping into a dark, dangerously amused octave.
A low, predatory hum vibrated deep in his chest. His thumbs pressed firmly into the curves of her hip bones, his grip shifting from a grounding anchor to a total, possessive takeover.

"Careful, Lenny," he warned softly, his dark eyes locking onto hers with an unwavering, feral intensity. "You're writing checks your body is going to have to cash."

He didn't give her the satisfaction of taking the lead. Instead, Kai lifted her effortlessly by the hips, pulling her up just enough to break that maddening, surface-level friction. He felt her fingers dig reflexively into his chest, her breath catching sharply as he aligned them perfectly.

Then, with an agonizingly slow, deliberate shift of his core, Kai pulled her down, breaching her tight, slick entrance with just the broad, blunt head of his cock.

He stopped right there.

He stretched her just enough to pull a high, broken gasp from her lips, filling her shallowly while actively denying them both the deep, heavy plunge their bodies were starving for. The sheer, gripping heat of her surrounding the tip of him was staggering. It took every single ounce of his much-tested restraint not to surge upward, bury himself to the hilt, and completely lose his mind inside her right then and there.

But he was a stubborn man. And he absolutely never backed down from a challenge.

Kai let his hands release her hips, his palms sliding slowly up the trembling, flushed line of her torso. He swept over the sensitive flare of her ribs and captured the heavy, aching swells of her breasts. He weighed her in his hands, his thumbs aggressively brushing and rolling over her hardened nipples, drawing a helpless, shuddering arch from her spine that pressed her even deeper onto his tip.

"Go ahead, baby," Kai dared her, a cocky, devastatingly confident smile curving his lips as he held her right on that agonizing precipice. "Test me. Let's see exactly what happens."

Lennon Rae 04-24-2026 12:38 PM

Lennon’s breath shattered into a million jagged pieces, her ribcage bowing upward into the aggressive, calloused hold of his palms. The sharp, demanding roll of his thumbs over her sensitive peaks sent a jolt of pure, liquid fire straight down to where their bodies were fused.

I'll give you a test, she thought, her mind hazing over with a dizzying, intoxicating blend of lust and fierce, competitive adrenaline.

Holding his dark, feral gaze, Lennon’s lips curved into a wicked, breathless smile that mirrored his own arrogance. She didn't ask for permission, and she certainly didn't hesitate. Gripping the solid, sweat-dampened curves of his shoulders for leverage, she tightened her core and deliberately, heavily, sank her weight down.

The agonizingly slow, exquisite glide of taking him completely stole whatever oxygen she had left.

"Challenge accepted," she gasped out, the words vibrating with a desperate kind of triumph as she swallowed his thick length inch by inch.

The overwhelming, blinding sensation of finally being filled to the hilt, perfectly crashing into the relentless, teasing pressure on her breasts, was simply too much to bear. Her eyes fluttered shut and her head fell back, exposing the long, flushed column of her throat. A ragged, helpless moan tore past her lips, betraying just how deeply he affected her.
But she refused to surrender the reins.

Bracing her hands firmly against the hard planes of his chest, Lennon squeezed her inner muscles tight around him and began to move. She started to rock, back and forth, establishing a slow, torturously grinding rhythm designed to exact the sweetest kind of revenge. The friction was maddening, drawing another broken sound from her throat as she dragged herself along his rigid length.

Opening her eyes, she peered down at him through her lashes, watching the harsh lines of his jaw tighten as her movement forced him to endure the exact same agonizing restraint he had just weaponized against her.

"Just make sure you tell me," Lennon whispered, her voice a sultry, breathy taunt as she rocked her hips forward again, "when you're ready to cash out, babe."

Kai Mercer 04-24-2026 12:58 PM

Seeing her like this—flushed, arrogant, and taking every inch of him while her voice broke on a taunt—was enough to make Kai want to tear the world apart.

The sheer, gripping heat of her was absolute murder. As she sank down, burying him to the hilt, Kai’s head hit the mattress hard, his eyes squeezing shut as a low, guttural growl vibrated through his entire chest. He felt every wet, sliding muscle of her internal rhythm squeezing him, welcoming him, and trying to break him all at once.

"Lennon," he rasped, the name sounding more like a prayer and a threat.

He let her have the lead for a few long, agonizingly beautiful minutes. He lay back and absorbed the wreckage she was making of his self-control, watching the way her breasts swayed with every grinding rock of her hips and the way her throat arched in the dim light. She was a goddess of his own making, a force of nature he’d been invited into her bed to worship, and watching her claim him with such fierce, uninhibited hunger was almost better than the sex itself.

But the way she called him *babe*—with that wicked, challenging edge—snapped the last of his patience.

"Cash out?" Kai repeated, his voice dropping into a dark, dangerously smooth octave that cut right through her rhythmic moans.

His eyes snapped open, blazing with a renewed, cocky intensity. He didn't just meet her gaze; he pinned her with it. Before she could adjust her rhythm, his large hands moved with lightning speed.

One hand stayed high, his fingers tangling into the messy silk of her hair to pull her head down just enough so she could see the absolute confidence in his expression. His other hand slid down, tracing the sweat-slicked line of her stomach until his fingers found exactly what they were looking for.

He didn't just touch her; he claimed her.

His thumb found her swollen, hypersensitive clit and pressed down with a firm, circular pressure that made Lennon’s entire body go rigid. At the same time, his hand in her hair released, sliding down to capture her breast, his palm cupping the heavy weight while his fingers pinched and rolled her nipple in a punishingly perfect sync with his thumb below.

"You're the one who wanted to see how long I could hold out," Kai murmured, a slow, predatory grin tugging at the corner of his mouth as he felt her internal muscles clench violently around him.

He didn't let her rock anymore. He used the grip on her hip and the pressure of his hand to dictate a new, sharper tempo. He pushed upward, his core muscles locking as he met her grind with a heavy, shallow thrust that kept his cock exactly where she was the most sensitive.

"I can do this all night, Lenny," he whispered, his thumb picking up speed, flicking over her center with a devastating, rhythmic precision that sent her head lolling back again. "But I think your body is starting to disagree with your mouth."

He watched her eyes roll back, her breath turning into a series of shallow, desperate hitches. He was the one in control now, even with her on top, anchoring her to the pleasure and the friction until she couldn't remember her own name, let alone her challenge.

"Come on, baby," he teased, his thumb dragging hard across her. "Tell me again how you're in charge."

Lennon Rae 04-24-2026 01:20 PM

The devastating precision of his thumb, perfectly synced with the heavy, shallow upward thrust of his hips, completely short-circuited whatever defiance Lennon had left.

The arrogant taunt died instantly on her lips. In its place, a ragged, breathless gasp tore from her throat as her head snapped back. Her entire body went violently taut, her spine arching like a drawn bow as a blinding, white-hot rush of pleasure flooded her nervous system. Her nails dug desperately into the sweat-slicked muscle of his shoulders, trying to find a single point of gravity in the absolute chaos he was creating.

She had wanted to play the game. She had wanted to show him exactly how much she appreciated the dark, consuming way he had worshipped her from the second they crashed into this mattress. But the moment his hands, his mouth, and the rigid, unyielding length of him completely took over, the script flipped entirely.

The staggering realization hit her all at once: she didn't want the control anymore.

The fight to stay in charge suddenly felt entirely meaningless compared to the heavy, intoxicating relief of simply letting Kai dismantle her. She didn't want to lead; she wanted to be consumed. She wanted his rough hands branding every single inch of her skin, wanted his lips bruising her neck, wanted him to take over completely and entirely.

"Baby," she whimpered, the name fracturing into a sound completely stripped of its earlier, mocking bite.

Her hips surrendered the fight. Her muscles melted down against him, completely submitting to the sharp, dictating tempo he had established. Releasing her white-knuckled grip on his shoulders, her hands fluttered helplessly for a second before sliding into his dark hair, urging him closer.

"Please," Lennon breathed out, her dark eyes fluttering open to meet his. They were completely blown, hazy with a pure, desperate need that laid her completely bare. She was entirely at his mercy, and the terrifying truth was that she had never wanted anything more. "I don't... I don't want to be in charge anymore."

She arched upward, pressing her heavy, aching breast deeper into his claiming hand, offering herself up entirely. "Do whatever you want. Just... please don't stop."

Kai didn’t miss a single beat. The heavy, relentless upward thrust of his hips and the devastating flick of his thumb continued their punishing, perfect rhythm, dragging her deeper into the sensory overload he had masterminded

Desperate for a different kind of anchor, Lennon let her hand slip from his dark hair, sliding down to wrap her arm securely around the broad, sweat-dampened curve of his shoulders. With her other hand, she blindly sought his face. Her fingers found the rough, strong line of his jaw, and with a desperate pull, she guided his mouth upward, crashing her lips down onto his.

The kiss was a messy, wet collision of pure heat and submission. As his lips parted beneath hers, Lennon’s shallow, jagged gasps seamlessly melted into long, vibrating moans that she breathed directly into his mouth. The taste of him, combined with the absolute, consuming friction between her thighs, sent another violent tremor ripping down her spine.

She tilted her head, deepening the kiss as her body completely surrendered to his dictating tempo. She was entirely unraveled, drowning in the feeling of his hands and the thick, claiming stretch of him inside her.

Tearing her mouth away just a fraction of an inch, Lennon rested her flushed forehead against his. Her chest was heaving, her eyes squeezed shut as the pleasure continued to build into a crushing, unbearable pressure.

"Don't stop," she begged against his lips, the words a breathless, chaotic mix of a whimper and a desperate plea. She rocked down harder against his thumb, chasing the friction. "God, baby... please don't stop."

Kai Mercer 04-24-2026 03:32 PM

The sound of her surrender—the way the word *please* fractured against his lips—was the final match to the gasoline.

Kai didn’t just hear her; he felt the shift in the very air between them. The competitive fire had burned out, leaving behind something far hotter and infinitely more dangerous: absolute, unmitigated trust. Seeing Lennon Rae, the woman who survived by holding the world at arm’s length, finally let go of the reins and ask him to take them was the most erotic thing he had ever experienced.

"I've got you," he rasped into her mouth, his voice a low, possessive vibration. "I've always had you."

He didn't let up. He didn't give her a second to catch her breath or rethink the surrender. His thumb became a blur of devastating precision, flicking over her center with a relentless, driving speed that pushed her heart rate into a frantic gallop. He met every one of her desperate downward grinds with a sharp, heavy upward thrust of his hips, his cock burying deep into her slick, gripping heat until they were fused skin-to-skin, soul-to-soul.

He felt it start—the first, violent ripple of her internal muscles. Her thighs began to quake against his sides, and a high, thin keening sound started in the back of her throat.

Right as she reached the peak, as her body went rigid and the first uncontrollable wave of her orgasm crashed over her, Kai reacted with a sudden, fluid power.

He didn't want to be beneath her for this. He wanted to look into her soul while she broke.
His hand left her clit, but only so he could surge upward. He sat up, his core muscles locking with effortless strength, bringing her with him. He didn't break the connection; he stayed buried to the hilt, his cock a solid, unyielding anchor inside her as he pulled her flush against his chest.

"Look at me," he commanded, his voice thick and ruined.

He wrapped his arms around her, his broad palms splaying across her back, pulling her so close there wasn't a molecule of air left between them. Lennon’s eyes flew open, blown wide and glazed with the sheer force of the pleasure, and he caught her mouth in a searing, deep kiss right as the climax took her.

He swallowed her shattered cries, his tongue sweeping into her mouth to taste the raw, vocalized heat of her release. Inside her, she was pulsing around him, a series of frantic, tight spasms that felt like she was trying to pull him apart.

It was the final straw.

Kai’s jaw clamped shut, a thick cord of tension standing out on his neck as he felt her internal heat milk him. He didn't just let her ride it out; he took control of the movement. His hands slid down to the curve of her hips, his fingers digging into her skin as he began to move her—short, brutal, rhythmic drops that ground her sensitized body against his over and over again.

"Lenny," he groaned into her mouth, the name breaking as his own climax hit like a freight train.

The world narrowed down to the feeling of her gripping him, the scent of her skin, and the way her body shuddered in perfect sync with his. He felt his own release tear through him, a heavy, hot pulse that flooded her, his spine arching as he buried his face in the crook of her neck. He held her with a fierce, protective strength, his heartbeat hammering a frantic, echoing rhythm against hers.

For a long, heavy minute, the only sound in the room was the ragged, uneven sound of their breathing and the distant, fading hum of the city. Kai didn't pull away. He stayed right there, sitting up with her wrapped around him, his head resting against her shoulder as the aftershocks slowly subsided, anchoring her in the quiet, absolute safety of the home they had just built together.

Lennon Rae 04-24-2026 04:09 PM

Her lungs felt scorched, every drag of air a jagged effort that expanded her ribs against the solid, damp wall of his chest. Lennon couldn’t have moved if the building had caught fire. The adrenaline that had spiked her blood to a boiling point was entirely gone, leaving behind a heavy, liquid exhaustion that seeped into the marrow of her bones. She was dead weight, her spine slumped in a boneless curve, her face buried so deeply into the crook of Kai's neck that she was breathing his breath.

She could feel the rapid, thudding bass drum of his heart beneath her cheek, slowing by fractions of a second with every exhale he took. His skin was slick with sweat, radiating a furnace-like heat that seeped into her own trembling muscles. Even though he was only a few inches taller than her own five-foot-three frame, right now he felt like an impenetrable fortress. The way his arms were banded around her back, caging her securely against him, didn't feel like a trap. It felt like the first time she had truly exhaled in years.

Lennon let her eyes fall half-shut, her vision blurring as the dim amber glow from the streetlights outside filtered through the window, casting long, moody shadows across the bedroom wall. The light caught the sweat on his shoulder, turning it to a faint, golden hum in the dark.

She didn't try to lift her head or untangle their limbs. The thought of breaking the physical connection, of putting even an inch of space between them, made a cold, irrational knot form in her chest. So she just went limper, pressing her open mouth against his pulse point, too exhausted to form words. Her hands, which had been clutching him desperately only moments ago, were now resting heavily against the nape of his neck, her fingers loosely tangled in his damp hair.

The quiet of the apartment was profound, punctuated only by the occasional distant rumble of traffic from the city below. For once, the noise of the world outside felt entirely irrelevant. She had spent her entire life building walls, staying one step ahead, holding everyone at a calculated distance. But Kai hadn't just dismantled those defenses; he had made her realize how exhausting it had been to hold them up in the first place.

He shifted slightly beneath her, his chest rising in a deep, unsteady breath before he pressed a slow, deliberate kiss to her temple. His jaw was rough against her skin, and a slight tremor ran through his arms as he tightened his hold, as if verifying she was still there, still grounded in the reality they had just altered.

Lennon answered the only way she had the energy to—by letting out a long, shaky sigh that feathered across his skin. She sank even deeper into his embrace, letting the heavy, undeniable truth settle over her. The fight was over, and the surrender felt entirely like a victory.

The weight of his hand on her hip was a grounding comfort, a heavy reminder that the space between them was only physical, not emotional. Lennon let her eyes open just a fraction, the dim amber light of the room catching the sharp, exhausted lines of Kai's face as he watched her. Her arms were folded inward, tucked high against her chest beneath the heavy duvet—a lingering, ingrained instinct to shield herself that was rapidly losing its purpose.

Slowly, she slid one hand down beneath the covers until her fingers brushed the rough skin of his wrist. She didn't push him away. Instead, she caught his hand, her grip weak but entirely intentional, and dragged it upward over the sheets.

Kai let her guide him without a single ounce of resistance, his arm following the pull until she tucked his hand tightly against her chest. She wrapped both of her arms around his forearm, pressing his broad, calloused palm right over the erratic, lingering flutter of her heartbeat.

A small, breathy sound that might have been a laugh slipped past her lips. It was a raspy, quiet thing, completely stripped of her usual edge.
"You're really not getting rid of me now," she murmured into the quiet space between them.

It was dressed up as a joke, but in the dark, with her voice completely wrecked and her body still humming from the way he had dismantled her, it sounded exactly like what it was: a permanent surrender.

She tilted her chin down, the movement shifting the duvet just enough to let the cool air brush her shoulder. Without opening her eyes again, she buried her face into the curve of his knuckles and pressed a long, soft, devastatingly tender kiss to the back of his hand.

Kai Mercer 04-24-2026 04:52 PM

Kai took the full, dead weight of her and anchored it. He didn't just hold her; he became the wall she could finally collapse against. With her still straddling him, their bodies fused in the heavy, quiet aftermath, he let the frantic, hammering rhythm of their heartbeats slowly synchronize.

His arms stayed banded tightly around her, one hand resting heavily at the curve of her spine, the other slowly, mindlessly stroking the damp silk of her hair. He felt every shaky exhale she breathed into his neck. He felt the exact moment the last of her adrenaline burned off, leaving behind a profound, boneless trust that hit him harder than the climax had. He wasn't overwhelmed by the weight of it; he was honored by it.

When her fingers brushed his wrist, seeking him out in the tangle of the duvet that had bunched around their hips, Kai’s arm went entirely slack. He let her lead. He let her pull his hand up, his broad palm flattening exactly where she placed it—right over the frantic, beautiful drumbeat of her heart.

“You’re really not getting rid of me now.”

The soft, raspy confession, followed by the devastating press of her lips against his knuckles, made a fierce, protective warmth bloom in the very center of his chest. It wasn’t a joke. It was a white flag, finally and permanently raised.

Kai shifted his hand, his long fingers gently uncurling to cup the side of her face. His thumb brushed over her flushed cheekbone, tilting her head up just enough so he could look directly into her eyes in the dim, amber-lit shadows of the room.

"That's the best goddamn thing I've heard all night," he murmured, his voice a deep, gravelly hum that vibrated between them. He brushed his thumb over her lower lip, his dark gaze completely unwavering. "Because I've been waiting for you to realize you're stuck with me."

He didn't give her a chance to drop her gaze or deflect. He leaned in, closing the remaining fraction of an inch between them, and captured her mouth. The kiss wasn't hungry or demanding like before; it was impossibly tender, deep, and completely devoted. He tasted the salt on her skin and the lingering heat of their shared ruin, pouring every ounce of his certainty into the slow, claiming sweep of his lips.

When he pulled back, he kept his forehead resting against hers.

"I love you," Kai said quietly. He didn't say it like a sudden revelation. He said it like a concrete fact. Sturdy. Immovable. "I love you, Lenny."

He let the words settle over her, watching the way her dark eyes softened, completely stripped of their armor. He could have stayed right there, buried deep inside her, for the rest of the night. But the awkward, seated angle was going to catch up with their exhausted muscles soon, and he wanted her properly wrapped up.

"Come here," he whispered, pressing one last, soft kiss to the corner of her mouth.

His hands moved to her waist, his grip firm and supportive as he guided her. "I've got you. Up."

With a slow, careful movement, he supported her weight as he helped her lift off him. The slick, heavy slide of leaving her body pulled a low, involuntary groan from the back of his throat, but he didn't let her go far. Before the cool air of the room could even fully register against her bare skin, Kai shifted backward, pulling her with him as he slid down against the pillows.

He arranged them seamlessly until they were lying horizontally, fully tangled in the center of the mattress. Kai dragged the heavy duvet up over their cooling shoulders, pulling her flush against his side. He tucked her head right back into the hollow of his chest, throwing one heavy leg over hers to make sure she was completely pinned to him.

There was absolutely no space left between them. Kai wrapped both arms around her, one hand gently tracing the long, elegant line of her spine, soothing the lingering tension from her muscles. He pressed a long kiss to the top of her head, inhaling the scent of her skin and the quiet peace of the room. He didn't close his eyes. He just held her, wide awake in the dark, utterly content to be the place she had finally chosen to stay.

Lennon Rae 04-24-2026 05:38 PM

The silence that followed his confession was the loudest thing Lennon had ever heard. It wasn't the kind of silence that needed filling; it was the kind that settled into her marrow, heavy and permanent. *Lenny.* The way he used her name—not as a casual shorthand, but as an anchor—made her feel visible in a way that should have terrified her.

She felt the air leave her lungs in a long, jagged stutter. For years, she had been a master of the exit strategy, always keeping one foot out the door and her heart under a layer of bulletproof glass. But as Kai spoke those words—*sturdy, immovable*—she felt the last of that glass shatter. There was no clever retort to give, no way to deflect the sheer, blunt force of his devotion.

When he moved to lift her, she felt a momentary flash of protest at the loss of his heat, a physical ache that flared the second they were no longer fused. But then came the slide—the heavy, intimate friction of him leaving her—and she couldn't suppress the sharp, needy intake of breath that hitched in her throat. She felt small against the expanse of him, yet entirely safe, a sensation so foreign it made her eyes sting.

As he pulled her down into the pillows, Lennon let herself go completely. She didn't try to maintain any semblance of her usual composure. She went where he guided her, her limbs feeling like water, until she was tucked into the crook of his shoulder. The weight of his leg over hers felt like a vow, a physical manifestation of his promise that she wasn't going anywhere.

Her face was pressed into the warm skin of his chest, the scent of him—salt, cedar, and the lingering electricity of their connection—filling her senses. She listened to the steady, rhythmic thrum of his heart beneath her ear. It was the same heart she had felt racing against her palm moments ago, but now it was slow and certain.

She reached out, her fingers trembling slightly as she traced the edge of a tattoo on his ribs, her touch light as a prayer. She wanted to tell him that she’d been running for so long she’d forgotten what it felt like to be still. She wanted to tell him that he was the only person who had ever looked at the wreckage of her and called it beautiful.

Instead, she turned her face into his skin, hiding her expression in the shadows of his collarbone. She let out a breath she felt like she’d been holding for a lifetime, her fingers curling into the fabric of the duvet as she pulled herself even tighter against him. She was tired of fighting. She was tired of being the only thing keeping herself upright.

In the quiet of the room, she simply held on, her body molding to his with a desperate, silent honesty. She didn't say the words back yet—the air in her throat was still too thick with the weight of them—but she pressed a lingering, open-mouthed kiss to the pulse point in his neck, a silent surrender that said everything her voice couldn't. She was here. She was staying. And for the first time in her life, she was exactly where she was supposed to be.

The vibration of his heartbeat against her cheek was a constant, grounding rhythm, but the silence between them had shifted. It was no longer the heavy, expectant thing it had been moments ago; it was full, saturated with the gravity of what he’d just handed her.

Lennon tightened her grip on him, her nails grazing the skin of his side as she struggled to find the air to speak. For a woman who made her living with words, they felt like jagged stones in her throat. She could feel him watching the top of her head, his presence a warm, protective shroud that refused to let her retreat. He wasn't demanding a response, which was exactly why she felt so compelled to give him one.

She shifted her head slightly, her temple rubbing against the rough-soft hair on his chest. The vulnerability was an actual, physical ache.

"I don't know how to do this, Kai," she whispered, her voice so thin and frayed it barely carried in the quiet room. “But, I want to try, with you.”

She felt the hitch in his chest, the way his breath caught at the admission. She wasn't talking about the logistics of the night or the physical proximity. She was talking about the terrifying, unmapped territory of being stuck with someone—of being known so thoroughly that there was nowhere left to hide.

She pulled back just enough to look up at him, her dark hair spilling across his bicep. In the amber shadows, her eyes were wide and raw, the usual sharp defenses completely dissolved. She reached up, her fingers ghosting over the line of his jaw, feeling the slight stubble there before her hand slid back to cup the nape of his neck. She needed to touch him, to make sure this wasn't some fever dream brought on by exhaustion.

"You're an idiot for wanting this," she breathed, a tiny, watery ghost of a smile touching her lips, though her eyes remained intensely serious. "For wanting me. I'm a goddamn disaster most days."

She took a breath, her chest expanding against his, and finally let the white flag fly all the way up the mast.

"But I'm your disaster now." She swallowed hard, the final wall crumbling. "I love you too. No take backs."
